HVAC DIY tips

Your heating and cooling unit is the key to keeping your home cool and comfortable in the summer and warm and toasty in the winter. At Duncan we offer options to come twice yearly in the spring and fall to check your system to make sure its running at its peak performance to save you money and ensure your home is as comfortable as possible. Between those checkups as a homeowner there three key steps that you can do to prolong the life of your unit and help run efficiently.

Step One:

Replace your filter every 30 days (If you have animals replace every 15)

Step Two:

In the summer you will find a PVC drain line coming from your indoor unit. Pour two capfuls of bleach into the drain every month during the cooling season to prevent water leaks and system shutdowns.

Step Three.

Using only a water hose (BE SURE TO NOT USE A POWER WASHER) rinse out the coil on your outdoor unit. Be sure the system is turned off and leave off after rinsing for at least 15 minutes.
